What soil is best for tropical plants?
We always suggest using a well draining chunky soil mixture. At present, we do not carry any soil within our online store BUT you will see us with preferred blends at local markets and events in Central Minnesota. If you’re located outside of Minnesota & are unable to say hello at events we understand and therefore, our recommendation is to be adventurous and create your own!

Does my plant ship with a container or pot?
All of our plants ship in a nursery or greenhouse container. The pots shown in the product images are not currently available for purchase.

What is your return policy?
At Maki Plant Co., we lovingly package every plant, pot, and piece of decor to arrive at your door fresh and beautiful. That said, we’re working with living things—and weather, especially extreme cold or heat, can impact your plant’s health during transit. Here’s what we’d like you to know about our return process:
- Please open your box promptly upon arrival, especially to give your plant the best chance to thrive! Delayed unboxing—especially during chilly months—can lead to stress or damage we sadly can’t cover.
- Whenever possible, we’ll offer a replacement or store credit to make it right. If needed, we’re happy to discuss a refund as well.
- Please note: Some items (like clearance or final sale pieces) may be non-refundable.
- Return shipping may apply for non-damaged items.
How do I submit a return?
If your item arrives damaged or not quite right, please reach out via email or our Contact Us, within 48 hours of delivery. Including a photo helps us assess and respond quickly.

What if I need my plant sooner?
We get it, a loved one has a birthday and you forgot and it can't wait? Or let's be honest, you need to say 'I'm Sorry'.
Either way... It MAY be possible to not WAIT until the next MONDAY or TUESDAY, but we aren't going to lie, the shipping isn't going to be as pretty as the gorgeous plant babies your sending.
If we can make it happen we will sure try - please hit that CONTACT US button and we will do our best to support you as quickly as possible and get that gorgeous plant babe to your loved one as quickly as possible!
What is your cold-weather shipping policy?
Our team carefully considers plant types, seasons, your location and pending weather to pack your new plant with TLC. This might include a heat pack for extra warmth. Heat packs should be disposed of upon arrival. There is no additional charge for heat packs, we pride ourselves on customer service and our priority is ensuring healthy thriving plants upon arrival to our customers!
What are your shipping rates?
We like to keep things easy – that includes shipping! Our flat-rate shipping is based on your cart total:
- Orders under $50: $15 flat-rate shipping
- Orders $50–$100: $20 flat-rate shipping
- Orders over $100: Free Shipping
No surprises at checkout – just plants delivered safely to your door.
When will my order arrive?
All orders are shipped the Monday or Tuesday following purchase, if weather permits. If you make a purchase on a Monday, your order will be shipped the following week.
